Mountjoy Parade at Trocadero Arcade

We had just left the Footscray Market and crossed the intersection, packed granny trolley in tow, when we heard the unmistakable quality of live music. It sounded pretty good, too. So why not investigate?

A band were playing in the Trocadero Arcade outside the Say Cheese sandwich shop. (I have had a sandwich from there before - they are good!)

Also good were the band! It was a six-piece which included percussion, keys, violin, clarinet, guitar and bass. Looking at their set list I figured out (a) we had only missed the very start of their first song and (b) the band is called Mountjoy Parade.

(They don't seem to have a bandcamp page, but I found their Instagram, not that it really helps me.)

So we stayed for their whole set.

Mounjoy Parade appear to have played a few gigs around the place and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that - they are great. They reminded me of Belle and Sebastian and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

A perfect little surprise on one of the first warm sunny days of the season. It's been an excellent weekend for music.
