Knorts

Knorts
we come out snarling

I have been really enjoying knitting lately and had been looking forward to this project for a long time. Now it is complete!

A few years ago I picked up a secondhand copy of More Modern Top-Down Knitting by Kristina McGowan at the Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar. It's a book of patterns which, as you might guess, are knitted from the top down which usually means they're done in the round with little or no seaming. That's a type of knitting that appeals to me.

The book includes both shorts and long pants. The idea of knitted shorts amuses me for some reason, and I had a bunch of spare yarn from a failed project that happened to be near enough to Western Bulldogs colours. So why not a pair of footy shorts?

Just like jean shorts are jorts, knitted shorts are knorts, right? Perhaps not. My friend Kristina (not the book author, a different one) pointed out that they would more accurately be called yarn shorts or yorts. This is especially the case because this pattern involved both knitting and crochet (crochorts?). However, I have been enjoying calling them knorts (with a hard 'k') so I'm going to stick with that for no other good reason.

They're made with Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 8-ply in junior navy, cerise and frost. They're hilariously short. If I ever wear them out the house it will be over the top of something. They're also very comfortable as they have no seams. Ideal for watching from the couch as the Doggies woof and snarl their way through 2025.
